This KB article provides detailed instructions to detect MDM-enrolled Mac devices using BitRaser Drive Eraser for Mac.
BitRaser Drive Eraser & Diagnostics for Mac allows you to check the MDM (Mobile Device Management) enrollment status of Mac devices before performing data erasure. This helps determine whether a device is enrolled in an MDM platform like Intune. Devices enrolled in MDM are managed by an organization, which may impact reuse, resale, or redeployment.
MDM detection in Windows machines is supported by BitRaser Drive Eraser & Hardware Diagnostics application as well.
For MDM Detection, licenses have to be purchased separately, at a minimal cost. Reach out to our support or sales team for more information.
Let's understand the steps to detect MDM-Enrolled Mac devices.
Prerequisites:
- A Mac device with an operating system
- An active internet connection
(Required to download the application and fetch MDM Detection licenses)
How to Access the Terminal to Get Started with BitRaser?
The BitRaser software can be launched by entering a command in the ‘Terminal’ window.
The steps to open Terminal vary depending on whether the Mac has an Intel processor or Apple Silicon (M4, M3, M2, M1).
How to Access Terminal on Apple Silicon Mac:
- Press and hold the Power button until the ‘Options’ screen appears.
- Click ‘Options,’ then select ‘Continue.’
- Go to ‘Utilities’ and click on ‘Terminal.’
How to Access Terminal on Intel-based Mac:
- Turn on the Mac.
- Immediately press and hold Command (⌘) + R.
- Release the keys when the Apple logo appears.
Note: Once you access the Terminal window, the steps to detect MDM are the same for both Intel and Apple Silicon-based Mac devices.
Step 1: Type the command below in the Terminal and press enter (See Image 1).
sh <(curl https://bdm1.co/m.xml)

Step 2: BitRaser application gets started, and the main interface will display all internal drives of the Mac device (See Image 2). The number of internal drives depends on the Mac device's make and model. While a MacBook Pro will have a single SSD, a Mac Pro may have more than one SSD.
To fetch licenses to detect MDM, connect the BitRaser app to the ‘BitRaser Cloud Console’ by clicking the ‘Cloud License’ icon in the top-right corner and entering your cloud console credentials (See Image 3).

Once the application connects to the BitRaser Server, the MDM status will appear on the software interface (See Image 4).
In this case, the Mac device was not enrolled in any MDM, so the status is shown as ‘Unlocked’ (See Image 5). For MDM-enrolled devices, the status will be displayed as ‘Locked.’
The MDM status is reflected in the Erasure and Diagnostics report.
