BitRaser^® Mobile Barebone Edition - Wiping iOS^® Devices

BitRaser Mobile Eraser & Diagnostics Barebone variant allows you to wipe iPhones with iOS version 12.5.7 and above. The software can wipe more than 30 iPhones simultaneously and supports iPhone models such as iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 pro max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 plus, iPhone 14, iPhone SE (2nd Generation), iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, etc.

It also enables erasure of iPads like iPad Air 4th Gen, iPad 8th Gen, iPad Pro 4th Gen, iPad 7th Gen, iPad Mini 5th Gen, iPad Air 3rd Gen, iPad 5th Gen, iPad Pro, iPad Mini 4, iPad Mini 3, iPad Air 2 as well as all generations of iPad touch.

This deployment guide outlines three stages for wiping iPhone Devices using the Barebone variant.

STAGE 1: Download BitRaser Mobile ISO to Create Bootable Media

STEP 1: Log in to the BitRaser Cloud Console using the credentials shared over email. Then, download the “Barebone Variant: BitRaser Mobile Eraser & Diagnostics ISO” from the 'Download BitRaser' section (See Image 1).

STEP 2: Prepare a USB flash drive to create bootable media to wipe iPhones. For this, visit https://rufus.ie to download and install Rufus, a utility for creating bootable USB drives. Then, start Rufus and select the downloaded BitRaser Mobile Eraser & Diagnostics ISO file. Follow the on-screen prompts to burn the ISO file to the USB drive (See Image 2).

Once the process is completed, the USB drive will be ready as bootable media for installing BitRaser Mobile Eraser & Diagnostics software on the host machine via Boot Menu.

STAGE 2: Install BitRaser Mobile Software & Set up a New User Profile

STEP 1: Connect bootable USB to the computer. Power ‘ON’ the machine and press the appropriate function key specified by your device manufacturer to enter the Boot Menu.
STEP 2: Once the host PC successfully boots, you will see the ‘BitRaser Mobile Eraser & Diagnostics Installation Wizard’ window. Click ‘Next’ to start the installation process (See Image 3).

STEP 3: Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA) to proceed.

Next the software will prompt to Backup all your Data before proceeding with installation. Choose your preferred disk partitioning to install BitRaser Mobile Eraser.

Important: Installing BitRaser Mobile Eraser & Diagnostics requires a dedicated environment for performing data erasure. During installation, all existing partitions will be removed, and the drive will be formatted.
STEP 4: Select the disk on which you want to install the software and click ‘Start Installation’ The wizard will begin installing the software. This will take some time (See Image 4).

STEP 5: After installation, remove the USB drive and click ‘Reboot’ to restart the workstation (See Image 5).

STEP 6: The software will automatically open on the ‘Network’ tab. Connect the application to BitRaser Cloud to fetch the required licenses. You can connect to the internet using either ‘Ethernet’ or ‘Wireless’.

For Ethernet:
- Under the ‘Ethernet’ tab, select your active network interface from the ‘Network Device’ drop-down menu.
- Set the ‘Configuration’ drop-down to ‘Manual’.
- In the ‘Address’ section, enter your ‘IP Address’, ‘Net Mask’, and ‘Gateway’.
- In the ‘Name Servers’ section, enter your ‘DNS Primary’ and ‘DNS Secondary’ addresses.
- Click ‘Connect’ to apply the configuration and click ‘OK’ (See Image 6).

For Wireless:
- Click ‘Wireless’ tab.
- Double-click applicable wireless network in the displayed list.
- Enter password of the wireless network & then click ‘Connect’ and press ‘OK’.
STEP 7: After this, click ‘Create New User’ tab and fill out the Username, Password and Password Hint to set up a new user profile (See Image 7).

STEP 8: On the next screen, enter the password you created and click ‘Login’ (See Image 8)

Note: In case your password is not working, click ‘Forgot Password’ to reset it.

STAGE 3: Connect and Erase iPhones & iPads

STEP 1: After creating a new user profile, enter your BitRaser Cloud username and password under the ‘Users’ tab, then click ‘Login’ and ‘OK’. The software connects you to BitRaser Cloud to fetch available Mobile Erasure licenses and automatically save erasure reports to the cloud (See Image 9).

Note: You can select Auto Login to automatically connect the BitRaser application to the cloud console each time you open the application.

STEP 2: Connect your iOS devices to the host PC. You will get a notification on your iPhone to ‘Trust This Computer’ (See Image 10).

STEP 3: Click on ‘Trust’ on your connected iPhone device. This establishes secure pairing between the iPhone and the system, allowing the software to securely access and wipe the iPhone (See Image 11).

Once your device is connected, its status changes to ‘Connected’, and you will be able to see device information, such as model, OS version, serial number, IMEI, ECID etc., in the software UI (See Image 12).

STEP 4: To erase multiple iPhones & iPads simultaneously, click ‘Select All’ and then click ‘Erase Selected’ from the main UI of the software. To erase a single device, select the required device and click 'Erase' in its device panel (See Image 13).

STEP 5: By default, the NIST 800-88 Purge erasure method is selected. You may change a different erasure method from the dropdown, if required (See Image 14).

Please note that the application offers several erasure settings for iPhone devices, which you can select based on your requirements. This includes the following (See Image 15):
- Auto-start erasure when the device is connected.
- Restore device with latest Firmware.
- Skip device setup after erasure.

STEP 6: Click ‘Erase’ to wipe selected iPhone device. You will see a warning alert informing that the device will be erased beyond recovery. Click ‘Proceed’ to start the erasure process. The process will begin with the ‘Preparing’ status (See Images 16a & 16b).

Before the erasure process begins for iPhone/iPad, the application first downloads the required firmware. If the firmware has already been downloaded, it instead checks the firmware version and proceeds directly to the restoration process (See Image 17).

Once done, the blue 'Erase' button in the grid turns green and changes to 'Erased', and the software interface displays the status 'Completed' (See Image 18).

Upon completion, the iPhone erasure report is automatically uploaded to your BitRaser Cloud account with details including the erasure date and time, erasure status, and the device hardware and firmware information (See the Report below).

This deployment guide explains a two-stage erasure process for iOS devices:

STAGE 1: Download and Install BitRaser Mobile on a Windows System

Step 1: Log in to the BitRaser Cloud Console using the credentials shared over email. Then, download the Windows Variant of the "BitRaser Mobile Eraser & Diagnostics" software from the 'Download BitRaser' section (See Image 1).

Step 2: After extracting the .exe file, download the Zip Folder and double-click the application file to launch the installer. Then, Click ‘Next’ and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process (See Image 2).

Step 3: On the Ready to Install screen, click 'Install' to set up BitRaser Mobile Eraser & Diagnostics on your computer (See Image 3).

Step 4: Once the installation completes, click 'Finish' to close the setup wizard and launch the application (See Image 4).

After installation, BitRaser Mobile Eraser and Diagnostics opens and displays the initialization screen. The application is now ready to securely erase data from iPhones and iPads connected to your machine. Proceed to Stage 2 to connect your devices and begin the erasure process.

STAGE 2: Connect and Erase iPhone/iPad

Follow the steps below to connect your iPhone to the BitRaser application and proceed with the iPhone wiping process.

Note: Ensure that both the Windows PC and the iPhone device are connected to the internet before starting the erasure process.

Step 1: By default, the application opens to the ‘User’ tab under ‘Settings’. Enter your BitRaser Cloud credentials and click ‘Log in’. The application connects you to the BitRaser Cloud Console to fetch available Mobile Erasure licenses and automatically save all your erasure reports to the cloud. Once the status changes to Connected, click 'OK' to continue (See Image 5).

Note: You can select Auto Login to automatically connect the BitRaser application to the cloud console each time you launch the application.

Step 2: Connect your devices to the Windows machine (See Image 6a). You will get a 'Trust This Computer?' notification on your iPhone. Then, click on ‘Trust.’ This establishes secure pairing between the iPhone and the system, allowing the software to securely access and wipe the iPhone (See Image 6b).

Once your device status changes to ‘Connected’, you will be able to see device information, such as model, OS version, serial number, IMEI, ECID etc., on the software UI (See Image 7).

Step 4: By default, the 'NIST 800-88 Purge' erasure method is selected. You may change a different erasure method, if required (See Image 9).

Note: Only the NIST 800-88 Purge algorithm will be used for erasure process if an iOS device is in Recovery Mode, FMIP locked, or MDM locked.

Note: Restoring your iPhone/iPad returns it to a near factory-default state and permanently removes all data from the device.
